There have many discussions lately concerning patriotic and un-patriotic actions lately on this forum stemming from such news stories as federal court judgments, religion, war on Iraq, etc. So I ask you, what do you think is patriotic? What makes one patriotic?

Being a member of the armed services?
Being a civil servant?
Flying an American flag?
The love of God?

being a patriot means believing fully in our non-altered Constitution.

Well said.

I also feel it means you have pride for your country. I'm proud to be an American.

I think it means living every day, being concerned for the well being of your country.

I just hate it when people label you un-patriotic because you think there's serious problems with the way this country is headed...

Hell, I think the people who recognize the problems and care about them are more patriotic than the blind lemmings that think this country can do no wrong...

Would you mind clarifying "non-altered"? Do you mean the Constitution at a certain point in time or the Constitution as it is now?

I would say as the constitution was initially drafted by our fore fathers is the way it should stay. It can and will stand the test of time.

Looks like the Congress might be in trouble. Since they swore to obey all of the Constitution AND ALL of the Amendments.

The Initial Constitution didn't include the Bill of Rights. Not sure who all where involved in ratification of 11th and 12th Amendments, but those were done during Founders Generation too.

Then you have the 13th Amendment, passed by some very patriotic people.

Not that there is anything wrong with opposing Amendments. Since even Amendment about Prohibition was repealed just fine..

I think we might need another yard stick.

Love of this land and love of it's people, without writing a book on all of the potential exceptions to that rule.

Looking for something a tad more detailed?

For those who don't know:

Amendment XIII
Section 1. Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.

Section 2. Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

I hope that BStoneMega will take the time to revise his answer once more.

I repeal my answer. I am not educated enough on this subject. All I know is that some politicians misconstrue the constitution and what it was supposed to mean. Most of the research I have done is on the second amendment. If I could erase my first answer I would.
Edit: I shouldn't have hopped in on this one, although I feel I am a patriot. I do not know all of the amendments that have been implemented in the last couple hundred years and I shouldn't make myself look like a dumbazz by assuming.
