In a previous post, i've write some problem with my car... the "check engine" light is on, and i've plug a code-reader on my car.

First, the guy tell me about i'm wrong to see 2 codes error, as right!

it's not 57, but 157 the code I get.

157 is "Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor fault; low voltage.

But what is the mass air flow?

MAF sensor is prior to the TB in the induction system(between the air filter and TB),IIRC is does have MAF written on it.

You need to do a little searching, spend some time reading. once you gain an understanding of how things work and add a few new words/terms to your vocabulary the forums will be benificial. You will save money by finding out out where to buy replacement parts and how to do things yourself.

The MAF will be after the air filter, and over the Transmission.
Its a metal tube segment with a four-wire connector.

Check that connector for corrosion. Make sure that the wires are not pulled tight and under stress. The connector has a tab to lock it in place, be sure it snaps in place.

An intermittent low MAF signal is almost always the wiring and not the MAF itself.

And if you don't mind, where are you from and what is your native language?

I've try to unplug the wires and check the connector... seem okay. after i'Ve replug the wires, the "check engine" light don't turn on... only after 5 or 10 minutes. Normally, after I start the car, the light turn on after only few secondes (30sec to 1 minute)

But the thing I don't understand, why the light ONLY turn on when I move the car? If i start the car but stay in place, the light don't turn on... but if I take a ride, at this moment the light turn on.

Other thing, when I start the car, the RPM go a little bit higher than normal, and drop after 5 sec. I go in reverse to exit my parking place, when i'm declutching the RPM go higher again. I go in first gear and start moving and at this moment the light go on, and the light don't turn off until I turn the key off.

No other error code I get... only 157 in KOEO. In the KOER test, I have no error.

But why it's only when i'm moving the car that the light go on?

And my native language is french... i'm from Montreal, in Quebec. Not really in montreal, but 30 minutes from. Peoples from outside most recognize Montreal, because i don't think "st-jean-sur-richelieu" will be recognize there! Montreal yes

Thank to help me for my problem.

I think you have a 1995 because of the 157 error code. (Not a listed code for 96+ cars.) Before replacing the MAF you might try cleaning the tiny sensor wires within the sample tube. Use a spray electronics cleaner available at radio shack of some auto stores. Clean the electrical connector as well and reseat the connection. There is a wiring harness recall for the older contours, so you may want to check if you have any cracked insulation on the wires to see if you need the engine wiring harness replaced. If your under 100K miles, I believe the dealer will do it for free.

Not sure why you don't see a CEL until the car is moving?

What do you mean by "the tiny sensor wires within the sample tube"?

If I open where the filter and the sensor are, I see like "2 electrod"...

Do you mean that, or you mean where the big plug is connected in the little black box, where "Air Flow" are indicated?

This would be below the black box where "Air Flow" is indicated. If you open the air filter box and look into the top half where the air intake hoses are attached, you'll see that there is a 3" diameter aluminum cylinder with a vertical post in the middle of it. At the top of the post is a small tube with a 1 CM opening. Deep inside that tube are 2 tiny wires that can get dirty. These can be gently cleaned with an electronic spray cleaner.

Looking into the MAF:

The post is in the middle with the sampling tube toward the top.

so, I shoot the two wires IN the little tube?

This cannot be damagable for the sensor? I don't want to shoot with the electric cleaner and burn the tiny wires or wathever the damage this can do...

I want to try this, but i'm affraid too...

I've shoot the external connector with the spray, this not solve the problem... but shoot the "2 tiny wires" in the little tube can be safe and do not damage anything???

I will cry...

I've shoot the two wires, my CEL(check engine light) is on again... I really think that the sensor is really gone...

What can I check at last to find if this is the sensor or another air intake somewhere, so the vaccum is not good?
