I don't know if this has been covered yet but, has anyone else had trouble playing finalized CD-Rs in their stock ford CD player? I have great difficulty doing this. The Maxell brand seem the worst. I have better luck with the Phillips brand. I had two other cars that played the CD-Rs fine, as did the aftermarket unit I tried in my Contour (I didn't like the fact that the illumination could not dim, it was far too bright at night). I like to stick to stock or close to stock appearance (Blaupunt or ?) to avoid the theft problem. Any help would be appreciated. Rick.

Yes this is a problem with almost everyone I've talked to and myself as well. It just seems that they do not like CD-Rs not matter what brand (for me anyway). You can try and have it sent out to be re-adjusted - but I hear that it stops working again aftert a while anyway.
You might want to try Blaupunkts different colored CD players - some match very nicely with the Contour interior. Or try the Pioneer 7100 or lower - it might not be too bad.

Yep. I tried all brands, and the factory "premium" package wouldn't play any! Try Sony or Pioneer head units, as they both make ones that rotate closed when off, leaving a blank blck panel. It looks liek there is nothing there. I like the sony myself.

I have tried MANY things to get CR-R's to work in my stock CD player. The only thing I have found that works for sure, is the blue-bottom Verbatims, with a Plextor 8220 and using Nero Burning Rom. Nero also does MP3's really well too. Chris http://crush7.dyndns.org/

check out nakimichi cd head units. I recommend the cd-40z or cd-45z. they are extremely low profile, simple, but have all the goodies. check out the ankimichi post for more info

I have a sony headunit and i used to have the same problem. I found that if i used silver bottom cd's(i dont use expensive recordables I use bulk cd's I buy at a local computer show) and recorded them using the disk at one instead of track at once option with easy cd creator that this problem stopped. email me if you have any questions. king_nothing25@hotmail.com Good Luck

The Alpine in-dash changer that I have in my E1 plays CD-Rs of different brands (Memorex, TDK, Imation, Maxell) including the 80-minute CD-Rs (TDK, Memorex).
Rick, if you're looking for a "stealthy" Blaupunkt that can play CD-Rs, try the Blaupunkt Houston. I installed this head unit in my Probe. It plays all of the 80-minute CD-Rs that I've made thusfar.

I have an Eclipse head unit in my SVT, but I do notice that better quality media is less likely to skip ... so I think that probably makes it more likely that better CDR's will have a better chance of playing.
I have found the best blank CDR's to be by SONY. The actual CD is thicker than any of the others and I have never burned a coaster on them and they never skip in Eclipse ... other CDR's seem to skip (production CD's don't so it's not an install issue).

If you're not already doing so, try recording at either 1x or 2x speed. Slow as heck I know, but this generally helps. Depending upon your equipment, the sound quality will be better, too. Yeah, I know, it's suppose to be digital so it shouldn't make a difference. But in some instances it does. To simplify the reason, when you record a CD, the recorder is constantly doing error checking while recording. Errors do occur while recording and when they do, the recorder will re-record the bad data bits. At higher recording speeds, there are more of these bad data bits which manifests themselves as apparent poor sound quality or skipping.
