Missing is just, well, missing. An intermitant lack of power, maybe causing acceleration to "stutter". This is usually caused by some part of the the ignition system.

Bucking makes the car lurch, sometimes violently.




I'd actually have to disagree with you a little. When I experienced my problem last year, it would first manifest as a "miss" just like you describe. However, the more I pressed on the accelerator, the more it developed into "bucking" just like you describe; not so violent, but enough to shake me around in the car. Granted, I haven't felt it for almost a year now so my recollection may be a little off, but that's what I remember.

Sometimes these terms are so subjective... I've had strange noises coming from my car that I don't even know how to describe.
