I have a '98 2.0 ZTech. When I first got it the temp guage always read high but never overheated. I did change the thermostat but the high guage reading continued. Now it never goes past half. I am a little concerned about the reliability of the guage. Is there a recall I should look into? Should I worry? Any suggestions?

as a former worrier about such things I assure you not to worry unless it goes into the Red. The guage is not linear which means that the temperature change between O-R may not be the same as M-A; O-R may represent a few degrees and M-A several.

Cheers!

Pull out your manual and Electical meter and do the testing on the sensors. My temp gauge sensor was toast. Replaced it and the gauge and I are happy

I was told by my service advisor (who has since left the dealership for parts unknown) that the NORMAL temperature should be between M and A.

For almost two years my car did the same thing. It was scaring me too. I hooked up a code reader and found the temp to be running aroun 200 F. I called the dealer and they said that it was normal. I never over heated. Try not to worry too much.
