I accidently punched a hole in my speaker (RF hpc-2268). How badly will the sound degrade?

Also, if I want to block out the bass to the speakers, would wiring the capacitor directly inline with the speaker wires work? The cap wires seem unusually small (18+ gauge?) to be able to handle ~30W (output from an Alpine CDA-7894).
