First off some background on my car...I have the Street Flight turbo along with some other goodies(suspension etc.). I went to the track about 2 months ago with the car running 5psi which dynoed 230whp/213wtq two weeks prior to the track day.
When I arrived I met 2 guys with EVO's, they were immediatly impressed with the quality of the turbo, and the overall appearance of the car. Unfortunately I felt that impressing an AWD EVO owner at the track would be near impossible in any FWD(I do have a Quaife/clutch). They wished me luck and we were off to tech, and then to run. My runs were very consistent in the 14.0 range at near 104mph, while they were running 14.2-14.3 at around 96-98mph.....they were pissed! I talked to one of the guys and told him to launch that thing hard as hell! He went 13.56 at 99mph, that was the best run that they got that night, while my best run was a 13.8 at 103mph.
So in comparison...same track, same conditions, two different EVO owners that claimed to have AWD Eclipse's prior to the EVO that could hardly in one instance put a better time on the board then my 5psi turboed SVT. Now I'm not stating that they cannot be faster, or made faster for that matter, but who's to say that my SVT on 10psi with drag radials WON'T be faster....we will see in the near future.
Oh, I say go for the turbo as it comes intercooled with nice quality craftmanship/materials, and makes that much more power. Yes it is initially more expensive, but if you want to make power on any F/I car then you want to be intercooled, and adding one to Vortech will put in the same price range.
