You might want to consider a Forester Turbo for a new car. 25k, mid 13's and one hell of a sleeper.
Yep, we're thinking on the same lines, for sure.. I was just thinking about the 740i today, in fact.
Forester? I'd rather kill myself. I'm sort of an image snob.

I'm curious. Where do you get mid 13's for the turbo Forester? Most auto rags are claiming 0-60 ~8sec. Its heavier than the WRX, with less power....how do you thik its going to be quicker?
Unless your talking modded, then yes, you would have a hella cool sleeper.
actually I should have said high 13's but o well. In the newest Car and Driver they got 0-60 in 5.3 with the 1/4 at 13.8. IIRC, the weight was only ~3200lbs. It might make less HP than the WRX but being a larger engine with VVT it is torquier.

To me that's the best part, nobody would see it coming. But then again I want a Buick Roadmaster Wagon with a Twin-Turbo C5-R motor in it

I dunno, but I've got the current C/D too, and they claim 0-60 in 5.3 seconds.

Light weight and a good torque spread, from what I understand.

If I'm not mistaken, the Forester uses the 2.5L from the STI, instead of the 2L that the regular WRX uses.. So much more torque. But it's severely limited on the top-end, and is ugly.

How about the 540i 6spd? Same engine, roomy sedan and LOTS more fun than a 740. I've ridden in a 540 automatic, and what impressed me most (he never really dropped the hammer ) was the handling. He was tossing it around Beverly Hills' twisty, hilly streets at 40 mph and it felt composed as hell. Now with the stiffened suspension the 6spd gets... .

I was actually asking about the 540i Sport on the BMW board.. Problem is, they're a hot commodity, so I don't think they've come down in price that much. I got a ride in one about 4 years ago, and was REALLY impressed. It's definitely more nimble than a 7-series, that's for sure.
