DO NOT rule out bad alternators. I once went through 3 alternators at one auto parts store, & when I returned the third one I convinced the counter man to test then next two on the shelf under load before I took them out of the store. They both blew up right there. I then went to another parts store & bought a different brand which worked fine for at least three years.
It happens.
Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.
