it really depends on the type of driver you use and what *kind* of bass you're looking for. in most cases the bandbass boxes will play louder, but over a smaller frequency range. the ported boxes will play fairly evenly until you hit the resonant frequency of the port and/or enclosure. then they will tend to "boom." it's a trade-off. either get evenly loud bass over a small frequency range of get sort of loud bass over a wider range with a large "bump" or "gap" in it. a sealed box will give you the tightest bass in the smallest box, but the vey low-end will start to roll off early (like around 40 or 50Hz, depending on the type of driver/amp combo).

lastly, if you're really crazy, you'll take into consideration the resonances alive in your car. for example, if i remember correctly, the gas tank will rattle more at 120Hz than at 80Hz, but overall, the car sounds "boomier" at 80Hz. so tuning a box at 80Hz will make things even more abnormal. does any one else agree?

phew!

and bazooka tubes are really not worth it, IMO.

Hey baco99 -
There is a difference in size between 5x7 and 6x8. Some speaker companies may call their speakers 5x7/6x8, but if you measure them, you'll find that they're usually 5x7. Next time you're at a car stereo store, compare the Pioneer 6x8 with anyone else's 5x7.

Also, don't assume that a 6x8 will sound better than a 5x7. If you need convincing, listen to a Pioneer 6x8 then an Infinity Kappa 5x7.

Just an FYI.
