I have '98 'tour and I am running two blaupunkt 12's in the trunk and they are right behind the seat. I have listened to them with the seat out and in and only a very small volume difference is detecable. Truthfully if you are really hammering on your subs sometime when a good tune is on, the seat will provide a sort of filter for distortion. Good Luck.
P.S. I wouldn't recommend Bazooka tubes.
