You coat the filter gasket in fresh oil before putting it on, right? I've never had any leakage from the filter, at least any in a 3000 mile interval that was detectable, which is good enough for me.

When I put the filter on hand tight, it leaks oil until I tighten it with a wrench.




I've seen a drip or two from my filter if I don't give it a little wrench love.

BTW, if anybody thinks the duratec is hard, try the zetec! It's not really hard per say, but you have to reach through the front suspension to get the filter. Talk about messy!

Even easier than the duratecs, my dad's Accord, my brothers' WRXs.

Easy is an RX-7. The oil filter sits right on TOP of the engine next to the dipstick.


Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

I cut a 6" funnel in half (the long way) and use half of it sitting up under the filter to block the oil spills. Cool part is, I've got another funnel in reserve if I ever lose this one (if I ever get another tour). The first couple of oil changes sure were stinky though until I figured out the funnel idea.... Peeeeeeeee-you!

Yeah, I do that. Maybe I don't put enough on. I'll load it up good when I change it again next time.

hey hey, i'm not a noob at changing oil here....of course I put some oil on the seal of the filter. Just the placement of the front exhaust headers and radiator make it a tight space and lots of heat to deal with. But the effort doesn't go unoticed.....my baby is filled up with 6 quarts of Mobil 1 full synth...a motorcraft filter.... and the same day before I changed the oil, I spent about 8 hours detailing her....treated and conditioned the leather, washed, waxed, took towels everywhere..... my LX is looking purty good!

Took me several changes to figure out the best way to access the filter. If I lay on the passenger's side of the car with my feet facing back along the side of the car the filter falls right to hand reaching up to it from underneath.

Try changing the filter on a Miata! Another through-the-suspension setup with guaranteed spillage.

i thought my cougar was pain in the a$$ to change the oil & filter. this car is even worse theres so much plastic crap in the way. i think im taking somewhere to get it changed from now on..only end up saving like 2$ doing it myself anyway

lol, i gotta admit, its a hella of lot easer to change the oil in my truck lol ford f150, ya its a hella lot easer yep, no jacking up the veicheal, no digging any holes, just put a bucket under it, and drain it and change the filter, add oil, run the s#!t out of it.
