ATL-SVT, Did you take the chrome strip off the car to apply the bondo and then paint it? If so, how did you take it off (and put it back on)? In the process off taking it off/putting it back on, did the strip bend, or did the bondo get cracks in it from any bending? Also, I am assuming you sanded the area where the Bondo was applied. Finally, did you do any prep work on the strip before painting, or did you just paint straight on it? What type of paint was used? Sorry for all the questions....but I took out the Ford emblem like 2 years ago, and then covered the chrome strip with chrom black-out tape. It looks decent for a temporary solution, put 2 years has been too long for temporary! I was thinking of getting niceboy's oval emblem for the rear, but I can't justify paying $50 for a filler oval (no matter how good it looks). I rather go the cheaper route using Bondo. Thanks in advance

NorCalSVT, Looks like us CEGers are a bit sensitive about our arse Anyway, if you are looking for a way to make your trunk look a bit more sexy, you may want to try to use a pre98 trunklid instead of the post 98 one. The pre98 ones don't have the middle reflector (and some of them have a small spoiler lip). IMO, the pre98 trunklid with all emblems taken off coupled with the SVT bumper and exhaust looks SUPER AZZ-BANGING sexy! Look through the pics and video section...youre bound to find some pictures of this setup.

Now I like that gunmetal look too. That is cool as hell. I guess ATL-SVT's looked Ok, but I don't get why dull black plastic is way cooler than the stock chrome. Looks unfinished IMO(lol). Some people confuse me.
I also don't get why NorCal was talking directly about the rear end of the car, and all he plans on changing is the chrome strip. If you want a different look, go with the pre 98 SE trunk with a lip spoiler. Those look nice on the SVT's.

The "dull" look, was just dirt, if you look close the whole car was dirty in that pic. Origionally I was going to go ALL t-red, meaning the lower black valence was going to be painted t-red along with the rear chrome strip. At the last minute I decided against it and went the way it is in the picture. When I took it off, I just used these tools I have that look like dentists plaque pics, different angled pointy pieces of metal. Pried them up underneath the strip and popped it off. It was A LOT less tedious than I thought it was going to be. I was so scared to break it, but it's really simple. It's glued on to the reflector at about 7 different places. By places I mean dots. There are about 7 dots of glue holding it on. Just find them and pop em off almost like removing your door panel. Then I sanded the hell out of the whole strip and bondo'd the spot. I let it dry real well and passed it off to my uncle to be painted. He said he used some sort of self adhesive primer, but I can't remember which kind. As far as seeing a strip painted body color, I'm pretty sure Pascal had his chrome strip molded and painted Silver to match the body color. I'm sure a search would turn up a few more posts with those pics in it. I don't have the time or I would do it for ya. Hope this answered questions and helped anybody who needed it.

Very informative, thanks!
EDIT: I found a thread of Pascal's from a while ago that clearly shows the oval ring painted, but there were no shots that showed the rear very well

i was just about to say something about this car...yeah it looks pretty good smoked like that but yeah it'd probably only work with a black or silver car.

That's what I was thinking.
Tim-I'm gonna do that prolly Tuesday. I'm gonna try to not have to take off the strip, though and just mask off the rest of the reflector real nice, though. The wheels are spinning...
Remember kids, when you swap trunk lids at a truck stop, make sure you bring dental floss!

Thank you very much!
I am assuming you put the strip back on using some strong glue as well.
