no, think about the medical bills that WE have had to pay in the last 19 years for him...

but IMHO, it beats most of the crap government spends money on.

Exactly, the medical bills WE have had to pay.

thats pretty goddamn selfish right there.

I agree. I'd rather see us spend millions of tax dollars to save a life, then spend millions to make a missle for "national defense".

Call it selfish if you want, but you paid for his care as well. Ethics aside, you can't skate over the issue of the medical costs and how we all have to pay for it. Sure, it's great saving a life and all that, but damn, come on. Enough is enough already! Nineteen years of coverage for a vegetable? Who here isn't paying out the butt for health coverage already? Doctors are going broke just to maintain malpractice insurance. I could go on and on. We don't have a social system where everyone gets health coverage. That's capitalism at it's finest and that's the way it is.

As for our defense spending, that's just the price of freedom baby. Our country was built on fighting, and that's the mentality we have maintained for our entire history. Hopefully, that will change someday, but I don't see that happening in my lifetime.

God this country is so damn liberal

I feel for the guy and his family, but there is only so much you can do. Personally I don't feel that I should have to pay to have this guy live a better life to the extreme i fear it will come to. Don't get me wrong, I give to the church collection and we have like 20 of those kids you send money too in Africa and other places, but thats just how i feel.

And I don't want any of you Lefties telling me that crap like" step over the needy not on them". Don't get me started on that bull Sh$t. Thanks

See, I don't consider myself a "lefty". I'm just comparing spending $750,000 to fire a Tomahawk missile, and spending that money to keep a dude alive. I mean, hell, lets use all the weapons we have before going out and spending billions more on them. I'm not saying we should abolish national defense, I'm just saying I have no problem with some of my tax dollars going towards helping poor people with medical and health benefits. And honestly, I mean, do we really need all 50,000 of those nuclear warheads?

Also, the stories tells us that this guy has been slipping in and out of consciousness for the last 19 years - like he could respond to certain questions by nodding his head. And put yourself in the shoes of his wife or daughter - the guy gave them hope and now he is out of his coma.

I know there are a lot of people receiving welfare and other hand outs from the government, and they really don't deserve them, but still, a lot of people have no choice that life screwed them over, and I don't think we should just brush them off to the side because we have it good and we don't like paying taxes because then we can't buy new wheels for our Contours.

If you feel so strongly about having money going towards this guy living, then why don't you go up to him, his wife, his daughter and the rest of his family, and tell them that.

Oh, and do we even know if tax dollars were keeping this guy alive? Perhaps he had medical insurance or family lifting the tab. Maybe the guys family is in millions of dollars of debt and we should just shoot them for being a drain on society!

I dunno, I'm tired and I'm going to bed. Good night.

Regardless if it was taxes or insurance, society still picks up the tab. Still a better use of money, IMHO, than keeping some lazy bum on welfare, or the current debacle in Iraq (what a sham the post-war plan has turned out to be. ).

Its all a drain on society!!! I mean people rape the welfare checks, Unemployment, Social Security, Medicare,...................... WE as Americans are not teaching people how to earn money for them selves. If we just keep giving money to a guy on unemployment, we aren't teaching him how to work or giving him the skills he needs to get a job. I mean he must be havin the time of his life when he gets money FOR NOT WORKING. And there are so many others in the country RAPPING the system its a huge drain on the American Tax payers.

The Lefties are proposing that we JUST GIVE money to people who need it. NOT helping anyone learn or get a job, JUST GIVVING IT TO THEM. HELL i'm all for helping someone get on there feet, but that what it should be GETTING ON THEIR FEET. We need to teach the American people the skills they need to work and become productive member of society. If they wanna just live off my tax dollars, I say let them go hungry for not having the will to better their own lives.

There are many exceptions, but lets face it, There are so many people cheating the system. OH well What were we talkin about....lol

Perhaps Officer Cartman would like to comment on this.

If you want to pay my airplane fare out there I would tell him.

I've told my loved ones that if I was ever in a coma for more than 2 weeks to pull the plug, no reason to waste away forever...

Um NO. I hope that was sarcasm because that was a stupid statement.

Um YES. Don't cap a word if you can't spell it.

And it was a good chance to point out the idiocy of comparing this man to a welfare abuser, which some are doing. I don't think he chose to be in a coma for damn near two decades.

Really, though, it is a miracle he came out of the coma.
