What size are my speakers? (95 contour) Are the front and rear the same size? Is there anything unique about them? (length, width, depth, attachment, atomic modulation, gravitational pull with the Crab Nebula)

All four of mine are stock, and are starting to sound kind of funcky.

Your speakers are 6"X8". All four are that size and in each door.
I replaced mine with 5X7 JBLs in the front and 6½" Kenwoods in the rear.
You may want to consider putting a size other than 6X8 in the back doors as I did because for some stupid reason Ford didn't line the rear grill up with the speakers! The grills on the rear doors are horizontal, but the speaker is mounted in the door at about a 45º angle. What this means is a 5X7, or 6X8 speaker would be half covered up by the door panel!
That is the reason I put a set of 6½s in the rear openings toward the bottom of the 6x8 hole. This lines the speaker up pretty well with the factory grill. I still need to get my ass to work making a panel to cover the rest of that 6x8 opening though. LOL

Does anyone know if that is still the case with the newer models? Like my 2000.
Thanks

All Contiques (and Cougars for that matter) use 6x8s. 5x7s will work, and you can probably cram 6x9s in with some redrilling.

Did you have to do any extra work to get the 6 1/2s to fit? Or did they just pop in?

i tried to fit some 6" speakers in the front and rear doors, and i couldn't get them in without messing with the metal. so, i went down to a 5.25", built a plate to block the rest of the hole and they sound great.

if you want the easiest, most brainless install, go with 5x7/6x8 speakers. generally, these sizes go hand-in-hand. the only discernable differences will be with hole patterns, but 99% of them will fit most fords. including the taurus and ranger.

if you haven't done this yet, you don't know what you're missing. by not blocking the holes, you're letting a lot of valuable bass get lost via bass cancellation. and while you're at it, throw some dynamat on the door panel under the factory foam. you'll notice an even bigger difference (and a quieter ride when the stereo's not on).

My Kenwood 6½s fit in no problem! All I had to do was drill holes.
