As a PC guru dude, I say you guys are pretty correct.
1. You may burn some CD's at 4x-8x for use in the car, but above 2x the quality of the disc relies heavily on the CD media itself and on the burner. If you have a cheap 4x-8x burner, only burn at 2x to play in the car. If not, burn at 8x, that's what I do.
2. Don't buy cheap-o CDR's to use in the car, you're not buying the CD, so how bad is it to spend 1.50 per CD-R?
3. Finalize (Close) the disc. When you use something like Adaptec Easy CD Creator, you can look in the burning options and see "leave disc open" and "close disc". If you aren't adding any tracks and you want to use the disc right away, close it or it will not play anywhere but in your CD-Recorder.
