I am currently trying to get my hands on a canopy polishing kit. When i was in the air force we used them to polish scratches out of f-16 canopies. It is a set of emory cloths that start at 600 grit and go in this order,
800grit
1200grit
2400grit
3000grit
4500grit
6000
and
8000grit
Some of the grits may be a little off but yes it does go all the way to 8000. we used it to make sure the canopies were without any visibility harming scratches. To let you know how smooth 8000 grit is, if you rub a dollar bill over the surface after getting to 8000 you will see scratches from the bill. I think this would work well.
