What is the proper procedure?
Does disconnecting the battery erase computer stored trouble codes?

Thanks

Get a wrench, pliers, socket or whatever.

I think it does erase the codes. Hell, even the AC does not work after that.

Negative first and then last when re-installing! My AC didn't work either right away!

Ground off first and on last.
After a period of time (15-20 min) the computer will clear. Look around here for the correct start up method.

I needed to clear bad EGR codes after replacement so here's what I did:

I removed the negative first and then the + and left it disconnected for about 20-30 minutes. The CEL came on after about 5 minutes of driving and after starting the AC, the CEL went off and did not come back on for about another 20 minutes of driving.

Is that the end of the CEL on this issue?

Are the platinum plugs with about 3,000 miles on them likely to be fouled due to the EGR not operating properly? There is a minor shudder sometimes when accelerating and engaging the cruis control....All in all it runs much better with th new EGR.

Thanks

u got a new EGR ??

Did u change it urself ???

How much for the EGR ???

I tried to reach the EGR, to clean it, but the whole thing looks like one piece.. i mean, the tube to goes to the exhaust seems attached to the EGR... that makes hard to remove it and clean it.

Why did u change the EGR ??

What was the problem ???

Any pinging before ?? If so, how about now ??

Later

Yes, New EGR I installed in about 30 minutes I bought from my friend, the parts Mgr at a large dealer = wholesale + 10% to me. I Just left the little hose on the engine and did not use the new one as it would have been very difficult to disconnect from the engine. The big nut that holds the EGR onto the recirculating tubing(I guess that's what it is) was a bugger...Some Liquid wrench and a special ratchet got that loose.

Prior to EGR replacement the engine was chugging and could only barely climb a hill / bridge...No Pinging. I got an engine computer analyzer and checked the codes = 2 error codes related to EGR. Now it has a very slight miss sometimes when accelerating at the initial accelerating point and then it goes smoothly. I've driven it only about 10 miles with th new EGR thus far.

I really thought that thing was more complicated.

It looks like the metal tubes are really difficult to remove/separate from the valve itself.
