I am not so sure about this.. I am pretty conservative (though surrounded by liberals) and would still have been proud to be American if poled when Clinton was in office, even during the peak of his scandals. Being American is more than about one man, any man. It is about certain "inalienable rights, that all me are created equal"...it is about liberty, it is about standing up to evil, it is about opportunity for all who put forth an effort. Clinton, while being a self serving, lying, cheating, man did NOT eliminate these principals.
Do liberals not see the question, or are they truely not proud? I think in general that leftmost liberals are less happy because they cling to failed socialistic principals that they feel strongly should still work but never will because they do not factor in flawed human nature. Internal conflict does not lead to happiness or pride..
