Interesting poll data from the Gallup organization: http://www.gallup.com/poll/releases/pr030703.aspQuote:
Certain demographic groups are more inclined than others to express pride in the country, although a majority of Americans in all key demographic groups say they are extremely proud.
* Eighty percent of conservatives are extremely proud of the country, compared with 68% of moderates and 56% of liberals. * Whites and nonwhites differ significantly on this measure, with 73% of whites and only 59% of nonwhites saying they are extremely proud. * Younger Americans are less likely to be extremely proud to be Americans than are those who are older. Six in 10 adults aged 18 to 29 say they are extremely proud, compared with about three in four Americans in both the 30-to-49 and 50-to-64 age groups as well as roughly two-thirds of adults aged 65 and older. * Likewise, more than 8 in 10 Republicans are extremely proud to be Americans, while two-thirds of Democrats feel this way.
So what does the CEG brain trust think of the results, and perhaps even the poll question?

There are some days that I am proud to be an American.
Other days I have to go WTF are they smoking that they think we need this (these days would include the passing of the DMCA and a few other bought bills)

I'm glad you are all proud Americans, but what do you think about the poll results?
I'm proud to be an American, but sometimes embarrassed by our short attention span

I'm proud with reservations - I love this country, and am glad I was fortunate enough to be born here. I can't think of many other countries I'd want to live in (Canada, Australia, Japan)
However, I think we as a nation can do a lot better. I think our voting rates are bad, and as a nation I think we tend to swallow whatever the media publishes without giving it too much of our own thought.
So there's room for improvement, I think - but isn't there anywhere?
btw antonio, whats wrong with being proud of your heritage?
now officially a troll, i guess. used to have a black 96 SE, until it broke down one too many times.
now I'm hunting for a motorycle.

Hmmm, I am glad you posted that. I am going out on a limb here. Personally I can't stand when people drive around with other country flags displayed on their cars. If you love your country so much why they hell are you over HERE? I love America but you don't see me living in Mexico driving with a American flag on my ride. Does not make sense to me..
don't have any on my car.
got a 8'x5' flag on my wall, and some stickers and posters.
not the fact that i had a choice. my dad is german, my parents moved here when i was 3, so.... whenever im ready to go back.
