Ya it was definitely not the smartest move to make. I've been guilty of doing some of that myself. Glad to hear you're ok though. BTW, for reference on the corners always go in high and try to come out low. Basically turn in as late as you possibly can. The problem with these cars is that once the front end lets loose and starts to slide by going in too early it's very tough to get them back without the front end wanting to come around. What you experienced is the same thing that happened in my rollover. I turned in too early and the front end started sliding and I ran out of track on the exit.
