We're about to lose our only good radio station in Kansas City. They want to turn it into either a country station or sports talk radio/ with live broadcasts of local sporting events, thats what AM radio is for, or the dreaded Top 40.

The staion is the only Alternative music station in Kansas City. We already have 3 Top 40 stations (bordering on 4) 3+ country music and God only knows how many sports talk stations on AM.

On to the point of this post. Someone has started an online petition in an attempt to save the Alternative format. If you like alternative music, or just want to help some poor defense-less Kansas City children grow up with a good Alternative station and not be raised on Top 40 music alone, I ask you to sign the petition.

How many do youll need?

Not to be a jerk or anything but just get XM radio, I love it. Then you can have 5 or 6 channels of rock or alternative.

Its pretty much just the more signatures the better. It started out they posted one of the "big-wigs" e-mail addresses, I guess he got about 1000+ e-mails in a matter of 24 hours. I suppose he probably didn't appreciate that too much!

I think it was a local listener that started the petition. I know I was #1277 so they are going on 1300+ signers as of 6:30 PM Central time.

With the newness and such of satellite radio, I'm not considering it an option in my immediate future. I don't like the looks of the add-on receiverrs, so I'd want a new headunit. So thats $300-400 for a receiver, plus $10-15 a month. Plus I don't think XM & Sirius are both going to survive. So until one or the other proves to be a strong enough to make it, I'll hold off.

For the benefit of us local folks, which station are you talking about? The only KC station I listen to is KYYS, which I don't think classifies as top 40 and definitely isn't country.

Not sure what KYYS is, I think it is 99.7, am I correct? The Buzz is 96.5.

I'm not saying KC doesn't have anything else escept country and Top 40, we have a wide variety of types of music stations. But again only 1 alternative station.

XM doesnt bring local concerts. XM doesnt have call-ins for winning cool sh*t. XM has nothing to do with your town/city.
