You can tart up an old piece of crap, but it's still an old piece of crap.
the SR20DET can fit in much more than a 240SX. and many of these installs for Nissans and Infinitis are very tastefully done. would you call installing an ITR engine in a GS or GS-R integra a "tarted up piece of crap" or an effective way of boosting the power of an otherwise good-handling machine? or beter yet, would you say the same about installing a 3.0 Duratec in a CSVT? what about the Focus SVT? or the Lancer EVO8? or the Imprezza WRX? etc....
i'm not trying to say anything bad about the Supras. they are pretty bad ass cars. But spending $30k+ in mods on a Supra is about as logical as any of the other potential mods listed above. just because it's a Supra doesn't belittle some of the mods other people do to other types of cars. and it could be argued that the money would have been better spent on some other kind of car. Like an RX7 or a Mustang or an LT1 Vette or an MGB. it all about what you want to drive and what you drive it for.
i don't see why more people are't more open-minded about this.

Thank you, I couldn't have said it better if I tried. Especially the part about putting the 3.0 in the CSVT
