Where can I get the 160 degree thermostat? I've been searching for that last hour and I can't find one online for cheaper then $22 and its a hypertech stat. Here it is on summit: summit scroll down to the HYP-1011 part number. I thought someone said Stant had one but it doesn't look like it.

Try again Stant 13396 is not the part number. I even called Stant and they don't make a 160 degree thermostat that will fit a 2000 Mustang GT 4.6L.

Who actually has this and would like to shed some light on this?

Thanks,
Chris

Kick ass! Thanks for the help. Stant's site is horrible and they must be morons if I can call them and they still say no.

Hmmm.

The Stant #13396 160 T-stat has been in my car all year.

Funny that it doesn't exist.

BTW - it was $5 at Advance.

You may have some driveability problems with a lower temp t-stat. Also, I heard years ago that some motor oil additives work better in the 180 degree plus range. Condensation/water doesn't boil off as quickly in the crankcase either, especially when cold.

A 160 temp t-stat doesn't and will never hold the temps to 160 (maybe in the dead of winter) but usually will open up at 160 to let coolant go to the rad. Normally the temp on a high perf engine with the 160 will run the same temps as a stock engine on a 195 t-stat.

I offer PnP Heads for all durtec's details at PnPheads.com or jesse@pnpheads.com for details.

When I ran mine in the AZ heat @115 outside(I got the 160 about 2 mos ago) It still ran at about 220. There just ain't a thing that you can do when it gets that damn hot.

this mod HAS to be paired with a chip or other electronic modification to make the cooling fans on the car come on early in the temperature range. I think stock the fans don't kick in until 180 or so?

you'de probably be able to do this without a chip if you can tap into the temp signal the car uses and drive a relay to turn the fans on. A circuit like that would probably be around ... 2 or 3 small ic's and some resistors. Maybe I should get off my ass and try to design it
