I know I'm a little late joining this conversation, but I think it's WAAAAY too broad of a statement to call a band "the best band."
For example - I generally
dislike the Beatles. I think too much their music is poppy, meaningless, and fruity sounding.
Granted, they wrote some awesome songs like blackbird, in my life, imagine, etc. That said, they were awesome performers, and they played well together. They are among the most influential bands, even though their music was incredibly simple. Good performers, good musicians, weak music, still a good band.
My criteria for a good band can vary. I like talent, originality, complexity, and lyrics. On the otherhand, I also enjoy a song that I can tap my feet to.
