Actually Alkaline Trio has more than 2 cd's out they have been around for at least 7 or 8 years, and each Cd is just as good as the last one. Watching them in concert is just as great. Instead of talking about how someone hurt them emotionally, and have them start feeling sad for themselves they turn it around with a different style and sound.
As far as the bands that I had named earlier, I was listening to them way before they became "popular". There are other bands that are still underground that I listen too.

The best dope influenced Beatle stuff can be found on "The Beatles Anthology 2", disc 2, awesome stuff, especially with head phones. And not only Pink Floyd but YES, they did a couple of Beatle covers in their early stuff.

Musicianship wise, one of the best ongoing ensembles is King Crimson. Robert Fripp is one great guitar player although since they do not get air play, they are not well known King Crimson

My favorite is Gary Numan, yes here in the States, he is mainly known for the song "Cars" but he has been putting out new albums every few years. He is considered the "Godfather of modern electronica" and has had more influence in industrial and post-industrial than most people are aware. Check out his site Gary Numan

And look here

for the 2 cd set called "Random" which has covers of his songs.

Alkaline trio has had 4 albums and their music in my opinion is awesome, but as you said they aren't even close to the best. But I'd rather listen to them than any other modern crap like Eminiem or Good Charlet .

And to tell you the truth, I have more CD's from the 60's,70's, and 80's than i do from more modern times. Hell i'm playin Casey Jones(Greatfull Dead) right know

Oh and Linkin Park really sucks

And before anyone suggest Audioslave sounds like them, Zack de la Rocha and Chris Cornell have two completely different sounds, so the bands sound completely different, and IMO, Rage sounds much better than Audioslave.

A cat gagging on a hairball sounds better than Audioslave.
Chris Cornell has to be one of the worst singers (and I use that term loosely) I have ever heard. Few things will get me to change the station quicker than hearing that looser in any band, whether it be Audioslave or Soundgarden or Temple of the Dog.
Course thats just my opinion

Smoke a fatty a listen to "Rubber Soul", the so-called "White Album", "Sgt. Pepper's", and "Abbey Road".

I don't get high anymore, but I remember just how that soaked into me. It literally washes over and into you. Great music!

You damn skippy. I saw Clutch live last year....MAN they put on a great show. The audience was interesting though since Biohazard opened up for them; a bunch of hardcore kids in the crowd. A band that plays good live always impresses me. Bands that I've seen put on an awesome live show include Tool, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Incubus, Clutch, Nine Inch Nails, A Perfect Circle, Beastie Boys, Fear Factory, Slayer, Deftones, and Shiner(a local KC group)

I go to a lot of shows.

Chris Cornell's vocal ability is purely amazing! He's one of the best rock & roll voices in any band in at least 15-20 years (except maybe Gary Cherone from Extreme & Van Halen)! I'm talking talent and ability; I can see where somebody might not like his style but there's no arguing his talent!

If you want to talk about talent, then I'd have to go with DREAM THEATER. Not my favorite band, but I can respect the fact that they're all amazing musicians. Especially the drummer Mike Portnoy... he is just amazing.

Staind was decent up until they figured out they could get more chicks by writing slow, crappy acoustic songs. They've lost what little respect I had for them.

Hell yeah, John Petrucci is one of the best guitar players ever. Like you said, their music isn't the #1 on my list but the talent will blow you away.
