Previously all of my speakers were hooked up to an low-end, older-model Alpine cassette deck which had basically no features.

Any halfway decent HU is going to sound better than a tapedeck from 1982. Pioneer HU's are solid as hell.

The "older-model cassette deck" to which I referred was the high-end cassette deck of Alpine's 2001 line. Oh, and I don't listen to any Easy-E or anything like it.

Moreover (because I'm like that), my Alpine head units (all nine that I've had experience with) did not have loose buttons and the rotary dials for volume were perfect for me. It takes less of my concentration away from actually driving (what you're supposed to be doing in a car) than holding down a button to raise or lower the volume... and yeah, 48x4 max wattage is pretty old fashioned.

Hey I said it was my opinion. You aked "Nak or Alpine?" which was opening the flood gates for opinions of the two brands. I gave you what you asked for so lay off. I also said that I'm sure many people have had Alpines with no problems and love them. So chill. And by the way...."high-end" doesn't mean much if it's a tape deck, of any model, PERIOD. It's your sh!t man don't get all defensive. I'm glad you like Alpine. I just don't think they're all that like some people do. Congrats on the new HU. By the way someone posted baaaad experiences with a Nak. Since that is the brand you got I would be a little more concerned with that. Again just my opinion. Good luck and sorry for the inconvenience.

Oh and by the way. How old are you? Not that it's any of my business or that being old or young is good or bad but I must pose a question. If Alpine makes such high quality products then why have you gone through nine of them?
