Well, i'll get to the point. Is it really worth it to mod a contour just a bit, i.e. intake, svt exhaust, maybe y-pipe. Or even just the svt exhaust and intake. I'm a college student working for money over the summer so i'll have some to spend during the year for...*ahem* fun and what not. But I love my contour, I love driving her and I love the feel and sound of the motor. I was just wondering if it's really worth it to modify it just a bit? I know it's addicting, i've read the posts on the forums of people and looked at some of there cars. They look amazing and I bet perform quite well.
I've got a 96 Contour LX (It has the 2.5 duratec obviously) with about 96k on it. The car runs fine, runs beautifuly it seems to me. It's an ATX.
But my questions remains: Is it worth it to mod a little bit?

Personally I think any is better than none. The stuff you want to do should make your car sound good and save you some gas money. When I first got my exhaust I noticed a little better acceleration and it sounded very nice.

If your goal is to one day make it a 10 sec car then you are wasting your time. If you want to make a mod or two to get better milage or power then go for it. I would say a K&N drop in and maybe a cat back for minor performance gains. Read the how to on the throttle body optimizing for some almost free power.

With 96k miles, I would save up for your next car. If you start modding now, you won't want to sell it when you should. If I had been patient, I would have $2-3k to put in my future 05 Mustang. How much does 30 additional HP feel like? My experience tells me that it feels no difference after a month. Save your money or replace broken parts with something better/less expensive than OEM, when it breaks. For the same price, would you rather have a Vortech Mustang or a Vortech Contour? I will wait, so my Mustang will have FI from the start, instead of have a Vortech Contour on a 100k+ mile car.
Sold 1998 Contour LX 13.868 sec 1/4 mile time.
Two years of rental cars, seriously.
Holding out for 07 Cobra Mustang.

Yea, I can agree with that. Might as well save up money for bigger and better things. I'd still love to mod but you're points shed some light on a better future.
THnx for the input, I really appreciate it.
