I don't even have my Contour yet but I'm planning ahead for when I do get it. What do you think of this setup?

Alpine CD/MP3/WMA receiver, 4V preamp outs, 23W RMS/50W peak X 4
Alpine 6-disc CD/MP3 changer
Sony Xplod amplifier, 200W X 2 @2ohms
2 X Sony Xplod P5 series 10" subs,
2 X Kenwood Excelon 6" X 8" speakers
Homemade box to fit between the rear wheel wells with amp and changer between the two subs, subs pointing forward.

I've read a few posts about 6X8's being crap? Those are the only ones that crutchfields has listed for this car. If any others will fit good please let me know! I would get 6 1/2's but I don't see any with the same clearances as the 6X8's have.

drop the sony subs and youll be straight....i suggest going to with JL Audio 10W0's you can find them for 99 dollars to 119 dollars. They will last forever and pound there little hearts out. I suggest doing components up front, I did Alpine Type S coaxials all the way around in mine, and I went and got the Alpine Type S tweeters to give more highs out and it worked great. Swap the sony amp also and get something different.

OK. What is wrong with the Sony things? Poor build, sound quality? Just wondering. I decided 12" subs would be better. Which of these do you think is best?

JL Audio 12W0
Kicker Comp 12"
Kenwood 12"

And amp: Kenwood KAC-7251, 230W X 2 @2ohms

i have the jl 12w0's. They are really loud, yet they need 300w rms to sound full. I had them hooked up to a 210w rms amp and they weren't too loud. But if you can get that amp one level higher, your good to go.

You can probably find something better for the same price, other than that nothing. Some people have been noticing a prop in Sony's quality. I myself haven't though. My friend has a pair of 12" xplode subs in his mustang and it sounds alright.

For subs I would probably steer towards something along the lines of an Adire Audio Shiva. More $$$ per sub, but more than wirth it. I would also get a set of front components over four 5x7s, and forget about the rear doors. Just fade them out

Stay away from the sonys they ont call them explodes for nothing.....the JL's are excellent subs. Personally I went with 2 Eclipse 10'2 with a Memphis D1000 amp in a fiberglass box ant it rocks. I am waiting on 4 Eclipse 5x7 poitsources for the doors. My freind has them and they sound awesome.

I was looking for a system in about the same price range your talking about. I ended up with a power acostik amp, pushing 600W x 2 @2ohm 1200W max bridged, (2) Infinity reference 12's DVC 300W RMS 1200W max, and a nice box off ebay for under $400. only problem it is hard to find subs with warrenties on ebay.

These subs POUND! and have great sound quality. I've started with a dynamat trunk kit and i'm looking into peel and seal to keep it from rattlin!
