I decided i dont want subs in my car, just clear, loud music. I got an alpine 9805 REAL cheap from a friend and took out my blaupunkt. Things sound much better. Im getting JBL speakers, dont remember the # but they are 6x8. After those are in im going to get a 75x4 watt amp and see how things sound. If its still not what i want im going to get tweeters. Those of you that have them where did you put them? Also are there any that actually would be good for under $100?

Thanks, Eric

Call me crazy but maybe you could get some gauge pods (driver's and customize one for the passenger's side) and install them in there. It would cool and be pretty functional too. Probably be the only one like it.

Semi curious here myself, waiting for reply from the SQ comp winners. Chime in anytime. My $ is on custom kickpanels.

I guess I would be one of those.

If you get a 75x4 amp to power your 4 6x8 drivers in the car, I would hope that is sufficient, especially if you are not wanting to add a sub. However, if you are needing better imaging and height to your sound stage, then the logical location for adding tweeters would be in the A-pillars firing basically across at each other. But, if you do this, be sure you attenuate their output somewhat and/or cross them over above 4 or 5k. Otherwise they will make your system sound worse (thin and harsh) than without them.

I do not have tweeters in this location (mine are in the kicks with my mids), but Anthony Davis does. We have both been successful in competition.

I have mine in the panel behind the mirrors firing at each other and Im pretty happy with the sound.
If you do a search on tweeter placement, you should find a thread I started a few months ago.

I plan on putting tweeters in my sail panels, I'll let you know how they turn out once they're in.

Go with Bob's suggestion. If you need to raise the sound stage aim the tweeters at each other across the dash, attenuate them, and cross them over at 4-6 hz.

I placed mine in the sail panels as well. I had angled mounts which helped to get them aimed properly. Certainly made a difference IMHO from the regular surface or flush mounted ones.

my tweeters

if you have really good tweeters like myself, you can put them under the headunit. Makes for a VERY EASY install, i can help you with a how-to. It is kinda like adding a center channel speaker. One thing i dont like about our cars is the fact that the speakers are on the doors (on our sides) and nothing is coming from the front or back. So this was a great addition. Then just wire them to the front speakers.

edit: btw my tweeters are the pioneer 3/4" silk dome tweeters. 50-75 bucks i think they were. Very good tweeters. Like 90w peak power.

Kick panels are the way to go. I've got Boston Pro 6's in the doors and a 4 and tweet in the kick.
