There is no reason why it shouldn't last for a very long time... Mine is waaay up there...basically 150,000 miles...and she still zips along Tons-o-juice left.
...but then again I don't even come close to redlining it....I may drive it fast, but I don't drive it hard!

The longevity of the Duratec is due to the Federal-Mogul pistons in it!
....maybe

With the only exception being that no Duratec comes with Federal Mogul pistons in it...

I can vouch for that...I work with Federal-Mogul....They make aftermarket fo the Mondeo but not the contour...Kolbenshmidt and Mahle piston both make for the contour but are nothing to jump for joy about.

I work FOR Federal-Mogul and we have a program called 'SAFE' which they use to forecast sales and such and I've seen it myself and talked to people who know more about it than I...I'm 98% sure that the OEM pistons are from F-M.
Sorry for the extreme late post - following up on any of my old posts.

Well if they are it was a mid model change. At least the first 4 years did not use FM pistons.
Maybe that's why the new pistons are more durable and have repositioned ring lands???
I know Tom ordered some FM Hypereutectics and they did not match his old pistons, but they did match the new style OEM pistons he got from another member!
Maybe Ford actually got off their duff and fixed yet another problem???
Still no waterpump recall though.

It is my intention to keep mine until it has 300,000 miles on it. I'm more than half way there. I MIGHT get tired of it by then. There is absolutely no indication that there are any problems ahead. It still runs in every way like it did when it was new. No oil consumption between changes.
