The filter actually costs about $34 because I just bought one and that was the price. I got mine from the dealer so I don't know if that makes a difference or not. It should only take you a few minutes to do. I just did mine at 30,000 miles yesterday as well as have the transmission, fuel system, and air induction system serviced. I was able to save $200 off the normal cost because I did much of the work myself. It can be a little tricky and you will need a torx driver (did I spell that right?). Just watch out for sharp edges because I got a nice cut across my hand and didn't even notice until I saw blood running off my hand. Good luck.
