If its what I'm thinking of, its a Christian symbol. To remove it, I'd try the same procedure used to remove any other attached badge or ding strip: fishing line and goo gone. Floss it off with the fishing line, use the goo gone to remove the tape or glue left on the finish, then wash and wax.
