Got a ticket off of steinway street for "unreasonably loud engine exhaust" while going to pick up my girlfriend. It' a summons too, which means i have to go to court whether i am guilty or not....What should I do? I have a bassani exhaust (with resonators out) and a sho shop high flow exhaust. I could have sworn everything was pretty legal. The funny thing is like 10 hondas flew by with a lot louder exhausts than I had, Should I try to get documentation to prove that it is legal? I never had a problem in 3 years in having it (thanks mayor bloomberg). Any advice would be helpful.....

Richie got a ticket too. The bassani is pretty loud. Your's is too from what I remember. There isn't much you can do...excepy put the baffles in and see if maybe during the hearing they'd be willing to go measure the decibels and see if it's within legal limits.

Do you know what he did about his ticket? I know the bassani was 50 state legal and my car passes emissions and all...I just don't know what to do...

The Bassani is "50 state legal" for emissions reasons only. That claim has NOTHING to do with complying with local exhaust noise regulations.

First thing to do is put the resonator tips back in - that should quiet it down significantly. Then demonstrate the sound to the officer outside court, or at his station. Maybe he'll let the ticket go when you do that.

If that doesn't work, bring the SVT supplement in to show the judge, and explain that the exhaust is how the car came stock. (Comitting perjury at your own risk.) That has worked in the past with other people.

Not prejury if you weren't giving sworn testimony. Not that I recommending you try to find out if that's true or something.

That is fuggin stupid.

I never see or have heard of Harleys or Semis pulled over for being loud. And Harleys are HELLA LOUD.

Why the hell do car enthusiasts get picked on. Fight that ticket I would!

Like I told richie...the problem with fighting it would be going to court more than once, I can't get off of work. I'd rather just pay it and be over with it...

EROCK,

How much is the fine?
Do you get points on your Lic for it?

I have the Bosal and I am in the same group as you guys.
Driving around town, I try not it get on it if I don't have to.
I have had cops follow me for BLOCKS because they see and hear the exhaust.
I have yet to be pulled over for it though.
They would rather pull me over for speeding 10 mph over the limit than give me a noise ticket.

We also met a Contour lover at Nathan's one night.
He told us that the State/City cops really don't have jurisdiction over noise.
The EPA cops do.
If you get pulled over by an EPA cop, then your in trouble.
They can give you a summons for the noise, and it is hard to get off.

But the law states that the exhaust has to be replaced with OEM parts, which isn't true, and is unconstitutional.
Even if you go back to your dealership for a replacement exhaust, they will install an AFTERMARKET exhaust.
So I don't know how this law can be enforced, and I don't really know how you can get off the law,
unless you claim that the law incorporates Monopolistic practices, which are unconstitutional.
Forcing us to only use OEM equipment forces ALL aftermarket parts
to be ILLEGAL for use, regardless of their certification.

It is a touchy subject, and with Bloomberg as the Money Hungry Mayor of NYC,
I don't think it is going to get any better anytime soon...
