When you out the car in drive, and then start to rev the engine, you will feel a bump when the mounts have gotten to the end of their travel. If you need to do this several times to make sure of the "bump" feeling, go ahead.
Since all you need to really do is to load the Engine and Tranny Mounts, then try this out.
When you hit the gas, release the brake once you feel the bump. Don't wait for the engine to rev up till it won't rev any higher. All you are doing is wasting gas and heating up your Torque Converter. You've got to get this beast moving !
With a little practice, you'll know exactly when the mount will "bump" and you'll be letting go of the brake at that exact moment.
You think you got a rush when the Contour took off from a loaded start ? If you get it right, not only will you get a quicker launch, but you *might* get a little tire squealing as well...
Ok! Wife killing me to the side, I tried this today at a stop sign or two. Bump is very noticable, but timing is another thing. Once I got the timing just right, I was not prepared and it snapped my neck! That thing.... well let's just say that it took off!! OMG did it!
I really need a chip now though, because I noticed everytime that about a second after power would hit the wheels - you could feel a small, but quick loss of power. Then it would hook back up. Almost like I was spinning my wheels and then all of a sudden caught traction again. Not sure if a chip would solve this, but it does seem if I was to have a higher line pressure it would not happen. Oh well, I don't plan on doing this anymore so I can live without it right now.
What not going to do it again?
