my friend told me that the best way to launch an atx is to stand on the break and stand on the gas till u reach just under 3000 rpms and then release the break and go!!! hes also telling me that when the break is fully depressed that the tranny go to neutral or something like that.wut i want to know is how much damage doin that causes cuz i think it kills your tranny but he thinks its safe. p.s. i have 20 riding on it!!!

OK. Go outside, right now (well at least wait until you finish reading this) and do this...

1)Crank the car and put the car into drive.
2)Press the brake firmly
3)Now, try raising your RPMs to just under 3000
4)If you did not run into a wall or something, come back and tell me how it went.

No! The transmission only shifts into neutral when the shifter is placed into the neutral position.

Given that you just replaced this transmision I wouldn't be doing things of this nature.

Just one time will not hurt it. Actually, like I said, several do it all the time and I have more problems with my tranny then they do. Like I said above, you would have to hold the brake and rev the engine a number of times back to back with no idleing in between to do any real damage.

Don't worry to much about or you will kill something. If your tranny is new, well someone told me to take it easy on mine too, but I did not think to much of it. I am only gonna drive it right? Well, some idiot would not get over so I could merge and there was an 18 wheeler behind him watching the show. So I had to beat him to the end of the merge lane. Mine is back in the shop right now!

And about how I posted that... sorry it came across that way. I did not intend it too. I was just typing what I would have said if I was standing in front of you. If I would have been standing in front of you, you could have seen me smiling while saying that. Not that I think it is a stupid question, just thought the picture was funny. Sorry it came out like that. I normally don't post MeanB@stard type of stuff. I feel that if you have nothing positive to say, then keep it to yourself and always have. I will stand by that as long as I can type, which I can bearly do now.

The reason it works so well is because you bring the engine RPMs close to the stall speed of the converter. This is what allows for a better launch off the line.

I've got one better for ya, and it takes a little practice to perfect it...

When you out the car in drive, and then start to rev the engine,
you will feel a bump when the mounts have gotten to the end of their travel.
If you need to do this several times to make sure of the "bump" feeling, go ahead.

Since all you need to really do is to load the Engine and Tranny Mounts, then try this out.

When you hit the gas, release the brake once you feel the bump.
Don't wait for the engine to rev up till it won't rev any higher.
All you are doing is wasting gas and heating up your Torque Converter.
You've got to get this beast moving !

With a little practice, you'll know exactly when the mount will "bump"
and you'll be letting go of the brake at that exact moment.

You think you got a rush when the Contour took off from a loaded start ?
If you get it right, not only will you get a quicker launch, but you *might* get a little tire squealing as well...

I just 1. put left foot on brake 2. hold the gas until it revs no further 3. let go of brake and floor it. I actually get wheel spin when doing this in my Zetec! Picks up faster than any other way I have tried (no neutral drops! )
