I have the 98.5 MTX SVT, and am interested in adding a few aftermarket items (ones that would require 12 volts...)
Rather than run a new 18awg wire through the firewall everytime I wanted to add another item, I was going to just get it over with by running a larger lead that I could tap off of..
Are there any ready-made holes coming into the trunk, if I were to run the cable UNDER the car? Thanks for your help..

12V at how many amps? Most of the stuff back there won't handle too many amps like a sub amp will need. As for low amp 12V constant supply, you can get it from the trunk light. Tap in the blue/orange wire that goes to the bulb. That should be 12V+. Test it to make sure! Then, ground the chassis.

If you are looking for a turn on wire, you won't find any in the trunk, and as far as holes, hopefully you don't have any back there... The lights would work... but then you would need them on to turn on your amp. =P Suck it up and run one under the carpet. I ran my power and turn on wires down the left side of the car, and my RCA's down the right side. It's not to hard, with the exception of getting power run under the drivers seat.

Okay... update... Firstly, If I were running for an amp.. (which I need to do, anyway) I can't seem to find a way through the firewall... arrgh. If I only had an ATX, the clutch space would be open.. lol
Secondly, I am actually wanting to go ahead an run a larger wire, to run a bunch of low level, 12V constants.. (neons, projector, etc...)
Thanks for the replies, guys... As always, a plethora (sp?) of help from the gurus of contour.org.. Ray

I ran 4 gauge a while back and I just used the factory holes in the firewall. Then ran it under the plastic lining of the door(quite simple), which takes you to the trunk. How you get around your back seat once your there is easy. Hardest part by far was the firewall. Hope this helps

I looked, and looked, and coudn't find any holes in the firewall. I sucked it up and finally drilled one. I went at it from inside the car, in the passenger foot area (under the glove box) next to some plug? it worked out good, I would recomend you go back and seal the hole after the wire is through though (prevent rust and such...)If all else fails... give this a shot!
