Sorry for posting a Buick question on here but I need a questing awnsered and I own a contour too. I have a 1990 buick skylark and I am putting new rings in, just got the pistons out the cylinders has a small ridge in them about 5thousanths .005 of a ridge. My dad wont use the ridge remer cause he is scared of them on wrong move and its all over with. he wants to hone the ridge out with the cylinder hone.I have never done this before and need advice we are re=ringing it with the motor still in the car.I dont have the tools to pull it so.Is it okay to use a hone for this.If not how do you safely use the ridge remer THANK YOU

NEVER HONE IN THE CAR WITH THE CRANK IN..!!!! you will get all the c**p in the bearings...I'd suggest you get the motor out and get the crank out and block stripped before you either cut the ridge & hone.If the ridge is large it sounds like you need a re-bore,fitting new rings to a worn bore is a wate of effort...unless the cars next stop is the 'used' lot...my 2 cents. wink
