From my experience, a bad electronic fuel pump gets worse as the tank level drops. Works OK when full, then problems as it gets closer to empty.

Yeah well mine works fine when I have more than 1/4 tank or so and when I get too far below that it feels like I have run out of fuel and will cut off the car but when I go to fill it up it seems like it was only at 1/4 tank after it has cut off. I just fill up sooner(at 200-250 miles rather than 300-350 miles) and it has been ok for me for about the last 30,000 miles or so I think.

Hmm... same problems here. But now it's dying for sure and needs immediate changing. Received a replacement unit from BAT, but it looks nothing at all like anything I can see in the pictures in the how to!? My digital camera was stolen, so allow me to describe it. Can someone confirm this is the correct part before I go tearing everything apart?

Has a part # on it:XS2U-9350-AA

It's a brass cylinder, about 3.5" long, and about 1.5" in diameter. On one end is a gray plastic interface that a small , flat, white, screen plugs onto. The screen thing goes out at 90-degrees to the cylinders orientation. On the other end is a wire connector, and what looks like the spot where the fuel-line connects. Is this the right deal?

A couple of things. The hole under the seat is too small for the returnless systems. You either have to drop the tank, or carefully, and I maea ncarefully (I cut a fuel line) make the hole bigger.

As far as the Bat pump. You will find what they sent you inside the pump assembly once you remove it and take it apart. Unfortunately it will not solve your problem. You need to remove the circular filter on the pump sump assembly. There is still a sock type filter on the pump inlet to protect the pump.

Thanks for the info. Yeah, I've heard some say to remove the circular filter on the housing, and some say not to. I think I will, as with every new replacement pump you buy, you get the sock thing. One's enough for me for the expected duration I will own this car...

I guess you're damned one way or the other.

Thanks,

Massiv.

Done and done.

Some tips for future pump changers:

-Even if you relieve the fuel pressure, it seems some still sprays out when you remove the fuel line. Be ready with rags! Some sprayed onto the backs of the seat even though I had rags all around when I disconnected it.

-It's hella scary removing the lock ring when that area was just saturated with gas, and now you're hammering on it. Best to wait and let it fully evaporate, or you risk igniting your tank and car, and you in it!

-If the fuel pump cover will not go back on, it may be the green o-ring/gasket thing is out of its groove. This happened to me.

-The BAT pump came with a sock that juts out at 90-degrees to the pump. The plastic housing around the pump requires it at 180 degrees, along the body of the pump, as the stock one is. You may have to clean the existing one by high-power spraying it with TB cleaner or something (this is what I did).

Btw... this fixed the issues.

I purchased a sock filter from a 1995 and made it fit. I cut the material off of the original plastic "frame" and used some zip ties and super glue to get the new one to fit. I also threw out the circular filter about 3 months ago and have had no problems. The problem with simply cleaning the circulat filter is that they seem to clog every 30,000 miles or so.

so the filter that came with the bat pump didn't work on your 99, that because its returnless because i'm thinking of getting one from bat but i'd like the filter to fit.
