First I like to say thanks to the makers of this site and to the many menbers that participate in this site. All your involvment has help me learn so much with my car.
Now the problem. I took my car ( 95 Mystique 2.5L Duretec atx, no mods yet ) to the shop to get my rear muffler replaced. Thinking that it was going to be a simple job turned out to be a nightmare. First the mechanic said that this converter may not be the one for my car. There are meatal tubes not more than half inch in diameter and about an inch sticking out both sides of the cat. converter and then plugged by weld. (best way I can discribe this) The mechanic also thinkes that they were brackets of some sort or passages into the converter. I thought that this was funny because I had my cat. converter replaced due to the reacall. I read about some converters and I never seen or read the reason for the tubes on my converter. Second, the pipe between the cat. converter and the middle muffler was rusted to the point the it was starting to flake off. Third was my muffler that I needed to replace. It coughed up the packing in my muffler. Also the connections of the cat converter to the system was welded different than the mechanic was used to and now I cant just replace the rusted pipe because the weld is really close to the converter ( on both sides). It has been a year and two months since I had my exhaust system replaced, and about two years (I think) for my cat. converter. Now they suggest that I replace the system from the y-pipe on down and it will cost some mucho $$$. With this price I might as well get my own system.
I am taking it back to get lifted and I am taking pictures of this on Monday.
I have basic skill and genral knowlege with autos, but a fast learner. Anybody that can help please let me know. Pictues of there stock system will help me out a lot or any suggestions about this would be appreciated. Thanks
