Anybody ever had this happen to them....
If I put the a/c on, the temperature gauge starts rising..... and if i put it on high, it starts heading for the "red" real fast.....
Just had the water pump, and thermostat replaced. The coolant was also flushed (for real, as far as I know).
I also had serperntine belt changed.
Anybody have a clue what it could be?
I'm having a/c checked next week.... it isnt as cold as it should be (and once was), and the fan comes on all time with it on.....
Thanks in advance for everybody's opinion and help....

If this is on a V6, The WP is driven by a different belt. (DS of the front cyl bank.) Might want to check that belt and tensioner. The fan is supposed to come on full time if the AC is on. It shouldn't make any difference if the AC is on normal or max because all this does is recirculate the cabin air instead of cool new outside air.

Try running the AC on MAX. The engine should run cooler. Running the AC set to A/C circulates OUTSIDE WARM air across the evaporator which translates to more heat coming from the Condensor. If the condensor gets hot, then the fans will suck the extra heat across the radiator, making the radiator warmer. When it runs on MAX, you recirculate the interior air. As the interior air cools down the condensor will also cool down since ther is less heat in the air for the evaporator to extract. This will translate into your engine temp coming down as well.
At least this is how it works on my Tour.

Thanks Pete, that makes sense and it sounds like it'll help but what I really want to figure out is why the car starts to overheat when I have the a/c on, and why this only started to happen after I took the car to my mechanic (dumb schmuck.) to change the water pump (metal impeller), thermostat (Motorcraft - stock - oem), dual mode dampner, and both belts... I guess what I'm trying to say is that I want to fix the source of the problem, and not just the symptoms. Frank

Might help if you could give you car details, although most of us are assuming v6, due to wp replacement. Also 1 or 2 rad fans?
What's the temp gauge doing w/o a/c on and will the rad fan(s) come on if you just sit at idle, in park, for a while with a/c off?

Some Zetec people (including me) are having this: upon meeting of the following conditions: - hot & humid air outside - A/C on (whatever setting) - constant high speed for cca. 1hr (80-90mph) the coolant temp starts to rise steadily (I always chickened out and switched off A/C when the needle hit the right edge of the scale before the red zone, so I can't confirm it does overheat). strangely enough, after switching off the A/C the temperature goes back to normal in 1-2 minute. another strange thing is that when I switch on the A/C again it'll blow in dense fog/mist/vapor so that all my passengers get scared Dunno what causes this. Doesn't happen when the air is hot but not humid. Don't think it has anything to do with engine overload, but it never happened below 80mph. Do you have something similar ? Tiv
