Check my pulse on this question, Jack. Do I think you're a psycho? Yes!

Easier said than done.

The access to sensitive information that my position provides requires that I undergo a polygraph periodically. My first, and most recent, was 3 weeks ago.

I am a very honest and analytical type who has no intention of doing anything to jeopardize national security, yet I had a difficult time during the 3+ hour procedure--which I somehow passed. A prostate check followed by a cold enema would have been about as pleasant, but more desirable since it would have been over in a matter of minutes.

My situation is but one of many that highlight potential flaws in using polygraph for employee screening purposes.

polygraph tests don't tell you if someone is lying, they simply measure a response to a question. The machine measures changes in heart rate, blood pressure, and breathing.

They also have machines to monitor changes in pupil dialation, which I believe to be more accurate.

If the examiner is skilled, you should be alright. He should have asked you several control questions like, have you ever stolen something from a friend?

They will use this to determine a "truthful" response or a "false" response.
