Wow, what kind of job? IIRC they're looking for stuff like breathing irregularities, heartrate change, body temperature... They ask you base questions, like your name and address so they get a measure of what you're like normally, then if they ask you a question and you lie those body functions are supposed to fluctuate and the machine picks up on that.
Personally I've never done one, but I think I'd fail just because I'd get all nervous with each question they ask me.

I'd be pissed that I so nervous it made it seem like I was lying when I had nothing to hide.

Good luck! A good friend of mine just became a Milwaukee County deputy sheriff. He promised me that he'd pull me over the first chance he gets, but he's been transferred to baliff duty

if you have nothing to hide, you have no reason to be nervous.

I've got nothing to hide, but imagine, being in a completely silent room, 6' X 8', strapped to a machine that's quietly going "WHIRR PURR CLICK CLICK" in the background, knowing this is standing between you and your career, and then out of that silence comes this voice asking you a question. Everytime the examiners voice came through, I flipped. Then he was sitting there telling me I can't flinch, I can't breath heavy, I couldn't even MOVE MY HEAD. Then he asked, DID YOU TELL THE WHOLE TRUTH? Makes you question even yourself. LIe Detectors ARE NO FUN!! It doesn't matter if you don't have something to hide, because I don't have anything to hide, believe you me.
Good luck with the job man!!
