If you're gonna do it yourself, make sure you're working on the LOW pressure side of the system - the one that gets cold when the A/C's running. Pressures there are only around 40-50 psi when the thing's running. On the high pressure side, (the tubes get very hot) pressures can reach close to 350 psi under some conditions (not good ones). Bleed a little R134a from the can, (can upright, just barely crack the valve open 'till you hear a slight hiss) while you connect it to the system - you don't want to get any air in there.

If you don't know what you're doing, you'd be better off taking it to someone who knows about servicing A/C. Topping off the charge isn't all that expensive, servicing components is.
