IMO the chip is worth it on an ATX Contour.
I find it odd that your car won't start though. When I got my Superchip the first time, the car ran like it was running on one spark plug, but it started. At that point I sent my computer to Superchips so that they could pull the correct code from it. They sent it back to me with the reprogrammed chip the same day they received it from me, and I got it the next morning. I would try a little more with the cleaning and making sure the chip is in the computer tight. But sending the computer and the chip to Superchip is no big deal. If you can find time to be without your car for about two days.
