Wow - what a sweet turn of events. My battery drained and I was stranded 12 miles away from home. While being towed, I decided to charge the battery and see if it was still any good. It took the charge telling me the alternator must be bad. My unit is extremely hard to reach(Mystique 1995 2.0L) giving me a couple days to study the problem. Sure enough, a search of the database turned up a message leading me to look for a high-power (175amp) fuse between the alternator and the battery. Mine was busted and replacing it cost $6.02 at the dealer. Big, big difference from an estimate of $159.00 for a rebuilt and $70.00 for removal/installation. If I had gone that route, I would still have the bad fuse. Also, another message advised to quick-charge the battery before engaging a new or rebuilt alternator. Otherwise, the strain of juicing a drained battery is too much of a load
Which post did you get this from? My alternator is 'dead' too.
