I just purchased a 2000 contour se sport. The car has 57,000 miles on it. I have heard horror stories about water pump failure and i am just wondering if ford adressed this issue for the contours final production year and if they didn't what should i do about it and when?
Supposedly, Ford switched out the black plastic blade water pumps for a better designed white plastic blade pump in the 1999 production year so you should be ok. Guys have pulled the white blade pumps @ 100k and they still look functional.
Just for safety's sake, though, you should switch out the pump at some point. Metal impeller pumps can be had for less than $70, which is a very cheap insurance policy against a blown head gasket or cracked block (read: $$$).
Beer is my Gatorade.
Hooray Beer.

yup..I have a 99 with the "tan" blade pump and when I changed it at 106,238 miles it was in pristine condition. I had already bought the bat metal impellar on so I went ahead and installed it anyways.
