Can anyone explain why with the A/C on, our car seem to die out. At least mine does really bad.

Most car's experience a slight drop in performance when the a/c is engaged. It's not unusual. With the a/c on the motor is driving an extra accessory, the a/c compressor. The more things the engine has to drive, the less power it has left to send to the wheels.

The power loss in smaller cubic inch engines is *generally* more noticable. SVT's have a relatively small V-6 (153 cid).

If you notice a significant loss of HP, you may have other problems. Are your secondaries opening OK, and is your intake / EGR circuit clean?

When my AC clicks on, my car comes to a crawl as well. And it doesn't help living at altitude either!

From what I've read, Ford's AC compressors are very inefficient. My brother has a similiar problem on his new Focus as well.

Yea man, sorry to say, but get used to it. My car is a total dog when the A/C is on... especialy when I am starting from a light to about 4k RPM, at that point, my IMRC opens (when it feels like it) and the power lost is kinda' gained back.

But it's so damn embrasing. I actually need to gun it up to 2k RPM's to start from dead stop!

Most newer cars have it set up that when the gas is hit all the way down the compressor kicks off, that way you have your performance.

It could be a low charge of Freon. The compressor has to work harder when that happens. I had a fast leak (a week to empty) on my A/C, and the car got way slower when I was trying to run the A/C as it leaked out. Fixed and recharged, the A/C power loss is hardly noticable again.
