Hey there. This is a basic question, but I thought maybe some of you audiophiles would have ideas. My SVT had a Kenwood KDC-8009 cd player in it when I bought it, which is now asking for a security code I don't have after I had the battery and alternator replaced. Does anyone know of a way to make it work again that doesn't involve paying an "authorized Kenwood dealer" $45 to spend 5 minutes plugging a special code in with their remote? I can't contact the former owner who probably set the code. Thanks in advance...

christopher

I beleive you can call kenwood, and give them the serial number on the radio, and they can give you the code.
but be carefull, if you dont know if it is stolen or not, the heat could come down on you.

No, unfortunately, Kenwood will only provide a list of authorized dealers in my area. It's the sort of code where the owner sets it - it doesn't come from the factory with one pre-set. The shops even say it only takes 5 minutes to do, and they still want almost fifty bucks for it.

Oh, and I have the receipt from when the prior owner bought it and had it put in, so I know it's legal and everything...

Well, that place is 2800 miles away....heh. Good suggestion nonetheless...
