Hey All,

I have been experiencing a leaking problem lately after a hard or moderate rain. I tracked it down to under the passenger side dash.

Anyone else experienced this before or have a possible guess I what the heck is causing this leak?

Thanks In Advance,
Joe

Some members have reported leaks originating from cabin filter area.

Suggest you remove cowl and filter and see if there are any obvious signs of where rain cound be entering the heater plenum.

Same thing happened to me about 3 days ago. It is probably the gasket that goes around the cabin air filter bracket (Plastic piece held with two bolts)and the car body around the opening. Take the filter out, then unbolt the plastic piece that the filter snaps into. Look behind it and you will probably see what was once a pretty good gasket. I used foam weatherstripping about 1/2 inch thick all around it and it hasen't leaked since.

Are your running AC when this happens....if so it may be the case that holds the heater core. This happened on my 98...they changed the design of the case in 99 or 00...a bulletin, not a recall...typical ford.

If you remove the center console you can reach your hand up under the pass side dash and feel the leak where the case clamshell is...a crappy design

If your car is under warranty then you are fine. Mine was not so it ran about 850 or so. The part is cheap...125 or something. The labor is a killer...they have to remove the dash, etc. Im fairly inclined...brakes, h20 pump, but I would not attempt this...to many ways to F-Up the electrical system, airbags, etc.

Good luck...Seriously
